A CACDA Delegation Visited Sweden April 22-27
2012-05-19

A CACDA(China Arms Control & Disarmament Association) Delegation headed by Mr. LI Hong, CACDA’s Director-General, visited Sweden April 22-27. The Delegation attended the Symposium on the Understanding of Chinese and European Efforts to Prevent Illicit SALW(Small and light Weapons) Transfer held by SIPRI and other exchange activities on the subject of ”China and the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, ATT”. The Delegation also visited the Swedish Foreign Ministry and the Swedish Agency for Nonproliferation and Export Controls. The Delegation composed of Mr. Kang Yong, Deputy DG of the Department of Arms Control and Disarmament, Foreign Ministry, Mr. Zhi Yu-lin, Deputy Manager-General of China North Industry Group, and Officials from the National Defense and the Military side, 8 in all. Participants to the bi-lateral activities from the Swedish side include Mr. Bates Gill, DG of SIPRI, Mr. Christer Ahlström, Deputy DG of the Department of Arms Control and Nonproliferation, Mr. Paul Beijer, Special Ambassador on the subject of SALW, of the Foreign Ministry, Mr. Jan-Rric Lövgren, Deputy DG of the Swedish Agency for Nonproliferation and Export Controls
SIPRI is a world-wide known wisdom tank, the Director-General of which Dr. Bates Gill is a well-known social activist and an expert on international relations. CACDA since its establishment in 2001 has developed valuable cooperation relations with SIPRI. An important demonstration of the cooperation relations is the publication of the Chinese edition of the SIPRI Yearbook in China annually. Another important aspect of the relations is the established system of regular-mutual visits. And this “April visit” by CACDA to SIPRI is purposely arranged to exchange views of both side on the subjects of the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty(ATT) and the illicit transfer of SALW. Extensive and deep discussions and debates on the relevant subjects conducted frankly during the visit, which is fruitful and satisfactory.
