CACDA Held Conference to Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Founding of CACDA & the 50th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Lawful Seat of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations

On September 15th, 2021, China Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA) held conference to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Founding of CACDA & the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful seat of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations. State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the conference and delivered a video keynote speech. Deputy Director of the Office for International Military Cooperation of the Central Military Commission Huang Xueping addressed the conference. CACDA President Zhang Yan hosted the conference and addressed the meeting.

In his speech, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi congratulated on the 20th anniversary of CACDA and its achievement over past years. Wang YI said that China has fully participated in the multilateral arms control affairs since the restoration of its lawful seat in the UN, made substantial and concrete contributions, safeguarding Chinese national security and interests, as well as promoting the peace and stability of the world. China will continue to make unremitting efforts to the global peace and security by its arms control diplomacy under the guidance of Xi Jinping’s thought on diplomacy.

CACDA Honorary President Sha Zukang, Director-General of the Department of Arms Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fu Cong, former President of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Ji Zhiye, Chairman of China Institute of Nuclear Industry Strategy, Pan Qilong, Senior Consultant of PLA Academy of Military Sciences, Yao Yunzhu, Professor of Tsinghua University’s Institute of International Relations, Li Bin, leaded the discussions on China’s engagement in the international arms control process since the restoration of lawful seat of the PRC in UN. They reviewed the past experience and historical contribution, assessed current global strategic security situation and explored policy recommendations.

More than 200 participants attended the conference on site or online, including representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Commerce, General Administration of Customs, Office for International Military Cooperation of the Central Military Commission and other agencies, along with CACDA Vice Presidents, senior consultants and council members, and representatives of domestic think tanks, colleges and enterprises.
