Acting Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Visited CACDA

On June 7th, 2013, Ms. Rose Gottemoeller, Acting Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security of US State Department, visited China Arms Control and Disarmament Association(CACDA). She met with a group of Chinese experts and specialists from CACDA, China Reform Forum, China Institute for International Strategic Studies, China Academy of Social Sciences, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations,China Institute of International Studies, and had a deep discussion on the prospect of US-Russian New Start Treaty negotiation, confidence-building measures between the Five Nuclear Powers, missile defense, Nuclear Security Summit and new type of relationship for major countries between US and China. Amb. Li Daiyu, the Honorary President of CACDA, hosted a luncheon for the US visitors and Chinese participants to the meeting.
 
Ms. Rose Gottemoeller has been the Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Arms Control, Verification and Compliance since 2009. She was the chief U.S. negotiator of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) with the Russian Federation. Prior to the Department of State, she had worked at the Department of Energy, responsible for all nonproliferation cooperation with Russia and the Newly Independent States, as Assistant Secretary of Energy for Nonproliferation and National Security. She had also served at RAND, the Council on Foreign Relations, the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
