On May 18, 2023, the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the UN and other International Organizations in Vienna organized the international workshop entitled “The AUKUS and Article 14: Challenges Ahead”, CACDA Secretary General Li Chijiang was invited to attend and chair the meeting. Ambassador Li Song, Permanent Representative of the PRC to the UN and other International Organizations in Vienna, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Other speakers included Anton Khlopkov, Director of the Center for Energy and Security Studies(CENESS), Tariq Rauf, former Head of Verification and Security Policy of IAEA and Laura Rockwood, Senior Fellow of Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation. More than 80 officials and scholars from IAEA member states, IAEA Secretariat and related think-tanks participated in the meeting. Participants had in-depth discussion on the challenges of the AUKUS nuclear submarine cooperation to international nuclear non-proliferation regime and to the safeguards system of the IAEA.
